Geographic Location : Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu and is located on the Coromondal coast of Bay of Bengal. Chennai is the fourth most populous metropolitan area and the fifth most populous city in India. The population of Chennai is 4.34 million (2001 census). Chennai is located on the south-eastern coast of India in the north-eastern part of Tamil Nadu on a flat coastal plain known as the Eastern Coastal Plains. Its average elevation is around 6.7 metres (22 ft), and its highest point is 60 m (200 ft). The flourishing economy of the city is credited to its key industries - automobile, software services, hardware manufacturing, petrochemicals, textiles and financial services.
